Group....

Today we got put into our groups for this project and had chance to discuss our collaborative publication. Which i believe will be a newspaper. We went for a walk around the northern quarter taking pictures and collecting flyers for inspiration. We had a few initial idea one consisting of using characters within our publication from people to architecture, animals and surroundings. Another idea was to collect snippets of conversations heard around the northern quarter. 'word on the street'. As we want our publication to be witty and informal i thought this idea of random conversations could be really appropriate and add a unique twist. We are unsure of our target market so far but with this publication being witty and current i suppose it may appeal to the younger generation.

Manifesto NQ

As my manifesto is based on the northern quarter and I wanted to make it into a piece of work that relates to what I am writing about. When I think of the northern quarter I think of vintage shops and little coffee shops. I decided to make my manifesto into a vintage clothes tag with brown paper and i made a rose patterned sleeve for it to go in. I thought this linked well with my theme and made it a lot more interesting than a printed piece of paper. It also reflects myself as i really like to make things digitally with a handmade finish.

Manifesto

Over the Easter holidays we were asked to write our own personal manifesto.  I wanted to keep mine with the theme of the northern quarter and i wrote about what i believe makes a successful study/project and things that i do and will be proceeding with. I also wrote about how we need to consider all kinds of design and this will be tested when illustration students get mixed with our graphics group. I think we will be able to learn from each other and create an interesting piece of work.

8 places to meet new faces

After creating our zine we were asked to make it into an 8 page spread. We decided to stick with the same layout as we liked how simple it was. We refined our key symbols and decided to keep our images in colour to brighten it up. We wanted to add a little more information than our zine so added a few punchy facts about why you should visit that venue and added the street names. We wanted to stick with students being our target audience making it fun and informal. We also wanted to add a title that kept with our theme of punch lines. One of my team member came up with '8 places to meet new faces' as a joke but we stuck with it.
